You're a petite woman with a large bust. What this means is that you're cursed to a life of ill-fitting bras, potential health problems, and the frequently unwanted leering of unscrupulous men. To add insult to injury, so many people will tell you that you're blessed. Psh! If they only knew...Fortunately, a proper bra will be able to help you in many of these situations. Let's have a look.
You may have heard this before. Whether from a friend or family member, on the internet, or even on the radio or TV. It's enough to strike fear into your heart and mind, and make you rush to the nearest restroom to remove the offending garment.
Fortunately, as it turns out, there doesn't appear to be any truth to this oft-repeated myth.
The New York Times recently reported on this. In short, they got in touch with Dr. Ted Gansler from the American Cancer Society, and asked if bras cause breast cancer. The response? "The short answer is no". Apparently there was a "study" conducted that broke many of the golden rules of scientific research. The study didn't control for other factors that could be related to breast cancer, and the study participants knew the hypothesis of the study. In addition, it was never published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Of course, does this mean that despite the flaws in the study, the researchers are wrong? Well, perhaps. The researchers hypothesize that "that bras prevent elimination of toxins by blocking lymph flow". However, Dr. Gansler points out that this theory is not in-line with the current scientific belief of how breast cancer develops. In addition, he cites another study that failed to show a connection between lymph drainage and the development of breast cancer. It is currently believed that if bras block lymph flow, they only do so minimally, and as the study concluded, the blocking of lymph flow is not believed to cause breast cancer.
Great news, huh? Now it's time to celebrate by wearing your favorite bra, and wearing it proudly!
